150 Years of Petoskey Farming: A Farm History Talk at Coveyou Scenic Farm

2024 marks 150 years of farming for the Coveyou family. As fifth generation farmer and owner of Coveyou Scenic Farm Market in Petoskey, David Coveyou will walk through how Northern Michigan agriculture has changed over time with a presentation that includes numerous pictures and stories of how the farm got started and evolved over time.  You will also be able to view the newly-installed, nearly 60-foot-long historical timeline describing the evolution of the farm from 1874 to today.   The detailed displays, vintage video footage from old bee yards and potato harvesting, and unique stories of innovation and resilience will show how the Coveyou family farm transformed with the economic demands of each decade. From a humble homestead and logging operation in the late 1800s, to a nationally renowned honey business in the early 1900s, to the flower and USDA Certified Organic vegetable farm it is today, the Coveyou farm’s story will captivate the minds of anyone remotely interested in local food, farming, and history. 

The presentation is free and will take place in the barn market of Coveyou Scenic Farm Market. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly. Hot cider will be provided. Space is limited, so register online to reserve your spot.
