Our Mission

Growing More Than Just Good Food

Our Mission

To be THE place for local, organic produce and artisan goods in the Greater Petoskey Area while being a leader in sustainability and growing community around local food

At Coveyou Scenic Farm Market, we strive for the best.

Not only for the best tasting, best quality organic produce, but to give our customers and farm visitors the best experience.

Not only for the most beautiful, historic farm, but for the most convenient shopping and fair prices for local foods.

Not only organic, but truly sustainable growing practices from seed to table that are both environmentally and economically sound.

Not only involved in our community, but deeply engaged in community issues and leading the way when it comes to solving them.

Many people tell us we have already met some of these goals, but we welcome you to decide for yourself. Ultimately, our mission is to create a sustainable farming business on our historic family farm that demonstrates our strong commitment to people, health, environment, and community.

Community Impact

Thanks to long-term partnerships with local schools, food banks, nonprofits, and other organizations, we help build a stronger, healthier community for everyone.

Getting Farm-fresh Food into Schools

We work closely with food service directors of Petoskey, Pellston, Boyne, and Alanson Public Schools within Char-Em ISD to make sure students of all ages have the freshest fruits and vegetables to eat. We also team up with parent advocates to keep the farm-to-school movement going, with school gardens, Try-It Tuesdays, and curriculum that benefits kids.

Stocking Food Pantry Shelves &

Reducing Food Waste

We are a regular Food Rescue partner of Manna Food Project. Each week, they pick up any leftover or surplus produce we have while its still good to eat and provide it to families in need. We maintain a strong B2B partnership with Manna and provide thousands of pounds of produce to the food bank each year at wholesale prices. We've also donated to and hosted fundraisers for Brother Dan's Food Pantry.

Meeting Community Needs

When COVID-19 hit Northern Michigan, we jumped into action. We become the only small farm in the Midwest to contract with the USDA's Farmers to Families Food Box Program, providing 18,000 boxes of fresh produce to area school children, seniors, and families in 2020. Our farm earned national recognition for our innovative distribution model.

Once the federal program ended, we have continued to supply boxes of fresh produce to the Friendship Centers of Emmet County so that our senior citizens have healthy food to eat.

Building Stronger Local Economies

Our food hub business model and regional partnerships help create stronger Northern Michigan economies that can withstand global hardships. Coveyou Scenic Farm Market is a proud member of the Petoskey Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Thriving Petoskey Initiative, Taste the Local Difference, and the Great Lakes Business Network, among other organizations working to better local businesses.

Advancing Michigan's Renewable Energy

In August 2021, David was elected to the board of directors for Great Lakes Energy, the largest energy cooperative in the state. Tapping into his strong, small-town values as well as electrical engineering experience, David is advocating for a greener, more secure electric grid that keeps prices and our dependence on fossil fuels low.

Our farm also hosts solar tours and events to educate the community on group buy-in programs and other opportunities that make a renewable Northern Michigan possible.
